The funny thing about the Hindi music scene is that we always end up equating it with whatever comes out of Bollywood. But, there used to be a time when standalone albums and single chartbusters were a thing. When a 90s or noughties kid was falling in love or nursing heartbreak, they would usually turn to indipop music more than Bollywood. That was our jam. Bollywood caught up soon enough, and the entire Jhankar Beats OST is a proof of that.

But, crooning along with Shaan, our 90s bae, to ‘Tanha Dil’ after getting rejected by our crush, and being all emo is something Gen Z will never understand. Perhaps they won’t even get why Falguni Pathak and her saccharine sweet voice was a mainstay on our playlists.
